PRESS STATEMENT

December 18, 2024 The recent successful prosecution of six members of the New People's Army by the Regional Trial Court of Palawan Branch 51 marks a significant victory for the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

The conviction of these individuals for violation of Republic Act 9516 or Illegal Possession of Explosives and Explosive Devices, resulting in a sentence of reclusion perpetua, underscores the unwavering dedication and diligence of our law enforcement agencies and the justice system in upholding the rule of law.

Their conviction also validates their affiliation as communist terrorists planning to detonate explosives to incite chaos, showing no concern for the harm caused to innocent civilians.

It is crucial to recognize the importance of respecting the judicial process and honoring the decisions made by the courts. Allegations of fabricated charges or unjust rulings only erode our legal system's credibility. Upholding the principle of proof beyond reasonable doubt is vital to ensuring that justice is served, and we must have confidence in our judicial institutions' fairness and impartiality.

The collaborative efforts of government agencies resulting in a just verdict demonstrate the coordinated approach taken in addressing the long-standing insurgency issue that has plagued our nation for over five decades.

Each successful conviction brings us closer to achieving peace and security in our communities, reinforcing our commitment to upholding the rule of law and advocating for justice for all individuals.

As the NTF-ELCAC continues its mission to end local communist armed conflict, it calls upon the public to join forces in pursuit of this common goal. Together, we can work towards a safer and more secure future for Filipinos, united in our efforts to bring about lasting peace and stability in our society.
