June 14, 2024

The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) proudly announces the achievement of Stable Internal Peace and Security Condition (SIPSC) in the towns of Hilongos, Isabel, and Merida in Leyte, signifying a historic feat free from the clutches of the New People’s Army (NPA).

The official declaration, attended by key provincial and local officials, including Municipal Mayors and senior military and police officers, demonstrates a unified commitment to peace and progress, paving the way for long-term development, economic growth, and an improved quality of life for residents.

"The declaration of SIPSC in Hilongos, Isabel, and Merida exemplifies the steadfast commitment of our local leaders and the resilience of our communities. This milestone not only marks the conclusion of a significant threat but also opens the door to unparalleled opportunities for development and growth," Undersecretary Ernesto Torres Jr., Executive Director of the NTF-ELCAC, said.

With the SIPSC status, these towns are now positioned to attract investments and development projects. Local leaders are optimistic about utilizing this newfound peace to stimulate economic activities, create jobs, and enhance infrastructure.

Torres highlighted the importance of community involvement in maintaining lasting peace, stating, "We must continue to nurture the spirit of unity and vigilance."

The dedication and cooperation of the residents of Hilongos, Isabel, and Merida have played a pivotal role in reaching this milestone, Torres noted.

He further emphasized that the journey to SIPSC in Leyte has been characterized by "collaboration, courage, and resilience." This declaration not only secures them at present but also lays the foundation for a brighter tomorrow, where communities flourish under the banner of peace and unity.

Looking ahead, the NTF-ELCAC reaffirms its commitment to supporting Leyte in sustaining peace dividends.

Torres urged continued vigilance and proactive measures to uphold the hard-earned peace in these communities.

"In unity, we advance our mission to safeguard our nation's integrity and uphold the values of freedom and security for all," Torres concluded.
