September 25, 2024
The three-day 'Nationwide Peace Advocate Summit 2024' held at La Breza Hotel in Quezon City brought together a diverse group of individuals, including former members of the CPP-NPA-NDF, government officials, and representatives from support organizations, to foster peace and reconciliation.
The summit, organized by the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), the National Security Council, and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), emphasized the importance of shared experiences, dialogue, and collaboration in building a more peaceful and prosperous future.
Keynote speaker Undersecretary Ernesto Torres Jr., Executive Director of the NTF-ELCAC, highlighted the courage and commitment of former rebels who have chosen a path towards transformation and unity.
"Each of you carries a unique story of struggle and resilience, and above all, stories of transformation," said Torres. "Your experiences offer invaluable insights into the challenges we face in our journey towards peace. By sharing these experiences, we can illuminate the path forward, not only for yourselves but for countless others who yearn for a life free from turmoil."
The summit featured discussions on counter-insurgency and peace-building initiatives, with a particular focus on the role of 12 National Clusters in supporting former rebel organizations. Participants shared perspectives, strategies, and best practices for reintegration and community development.
"We are at a crucial moment in the history of our nation," said Torres. "By working together, we can build a foundation of peace and reconciliation, creating a society that supports and empowers everyone."
The three-day summit, from September 24-26, demonstrates the collective commitment that serves as a powerful platform for dialogue, collaboration, and hope for a peaceful future.
