Fostering Solidarity with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines
LE October 24, 2023
In a significant step towards fostering peace, social justice, and reconciliation in our country, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) stands proudly at the forefront of a transformative initiative. Through their vast network of dioceses, parishes, and organizations, the CBCP plays an indispensable role in the peace-building and community development efforts of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC). CBCP’s inclusion in this endeavor strengthens the Task Force’s commitment to promoting enduring peace and harmony in our nation.
Central to the NTF-ELCAC’s comprehensive approach is a multi-agency collaboration that unites various sectors of society. Under the umbrella of the NTF-ELCAC’s Basic Services Cluster, missions reach out to isolated island communities, delivering primary healthcare and dental services, haircuts, and organizing feeding programs. These efforts, however, extend far beyond immediate aid; they encompass a value-formation component. This vital element empowers communities through church involvement, introducing moral and ethical teachings in all engagements.
As we extend our hands in service, we do so with a profound commitment to value formation. The church, with its moral and ethical teachings, stands as an unwavering foundation for these initiatives. The CBCP and other religious groups, through its broad network, ensures that these values resound in all engagements, fostering a culture of compassion, unity, and understanding.
The impact does not end there. Quoting Rheo Loseo, President of YWAM Ships Philippines, “We look forward to being able to continue supporting NTF-ELCAC by providing them with values formation components that allow the church to be involved in the long-term establishment of peace throughout the Philippines.” These words echo a sentiment shared by many, echoing a resounding call for peace, development, and reconciliation throughout our beloved nation.
In unity, we find strength. With the church’s involvement and the collaboration of organizations like NTF-ELCAC, we are nurturing a brighter and more harmonious future for all Filipinos. The CBCP’s dedication to peace, social justice, and reconciliation remains a beacon of hope for the Philippines. We invite every individual to join hands with us in this noble pursuit, as together we sow the seeds of peace and development for generations to come.
