CPP-NPA-NDF terror grooming widespread in schools – PNP

August 06, 2024 Terror grooming by the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) through its various student, as well as teacher front organizations has been persistent, an official of the Philippine National Police (PNP) told a Senate committee hearing chaired by Senator Ronald dela Rosa Tuesday (August. 6, 2024).

The hearing, through Resolution 863 by the Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, focuses on “inquiry into the continuous radicalization and recruitment of students in educational institutions to the local communist groups.”

According to Directorate for Operations Police Colonel Randy Arceo, at least 168 students across the country had been affected by this radicalization and recruitment of students to join the NPA.

Worst, Arceo said, there were 168 recruited students in recent years to join the senseless and bloody armed struggle of the Maoist-inspired NPA who were either killed, arrested and surrendered during combat operations with government forces. Of the number, 33 died during combat operations, 42 arrested, and 93 surrendered.

Arceo said the PNP data is collated from 2014 to the present.

He said the campuses of the University of the Philippines are the most infiltrated and affected by terror grooming activities, and these are in Diliman, Manila, Tacloban, Cebu, Los Banos, Clark, Baguio, and Mindanao. Also included a red flag for radicalization and recruitment is the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Manila.

Even prestigious universities like De La Salle and Ateneo de Davao are in the list, Arceo said.

The other schools include Bicol University, Western Visayas State University – Calinog Campus, Mindanao State University – General Santos City, Isabela State University, Cagayan State University – Tuguegarao City, and Palawan State University.

Radicalization and recruitment of young high school students are also being done from the Putian National High School (Capiz), Dr. Luiz Ebaracia National High School, Rosaliao Eduarte National High School, and Sorsogon National High School. Terror groomers also infiltrated the Hacienda Intal Elementary School, and Manipugol Elementary School (Maco).
